D1 Match Recap | Tempe Home & Santa Monica Away

March proved to be an exceptional month of rugby for the Surfers, as it not only marked the halfway point of the league season but also served as a significant period for reflection and growth. Throughout the month, the players experienced numerous learning moments that contributed to their development, particularly during the last two games. The coaching staff emphasized the importance of building team chemistry and refining their strategic approach, which became increasingly evident as the players adapted to the dynamics of the game.

In their highly anticipated rematch against the Tempe team, which took place on their home turf, the Surfers made a strategic decision to mix up the roster. This adjustment was aimed at testing various structures and formations while also ensuring that playing time was distributed across the entire team. This approach not only provided valuable game experience to all players but also allowed the coaching staff to evaluate different combinations and tactics in a competitive setting. Despite the Surfers' efforts, they faced challenges with their conversion attempts and kick to touch, which were crucial elements of their game plan. However the Surfers still managed to score two tries in the last 30 minutes of the second half, demonstrating their ability to rally under pressure.

Unfortunately, a few unfortunate mistakes in the final ten minutes of the match led to a tense conclusion, resulting in a tie with Tempe at 22 - 22. This outcome, while disappointing, served as a learning opportunity for the team to analyze their performance and identify areas for improvement.

Following the tie, the Surfers were determined to bounce back and showcase their skills in their next match against Santa Monica, which was held in Ventura to celebrate SCRFU's Women's Day. The Surfers came out with a renewed sense of purpose and determination. From the very beginning of the game, they displayed dominance on both offense and defense, effectively shutting down Santa Monica's attempts to penetrate their defensive line.

The Surfers executed their plays with precision, maintaining a high-paced offense that kept the pressure on their opponents throughout the match. The final score of 47 - 0 was a testament to their hard work and dedication, highlighting the effectiveness of their training and strategic planning. This victory not only boosted the team's morale but also reinforced their commitment to continuous improvement as they move forward in the season.
